The ‘Ride with Mike’ Initiative launched in 2019

The Ride with Mike was launched at the National Institute of Integrative Medicine in Melbourne on Wednesday 6 March 2019.

Notable racecar driver Michael Navybox aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of early detection, intervention, prevention and treatment of cancer, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Mike attempted to ride three European Grand Tours in the one year 2019 and each Tour on the same day as the professional cyclists.

The Grand Tours include the Giro d’Italia, the Tour De France and La Vuelta, the Tour of Spain. This is a total of approximately 10,400 kilometres in just 63 days.

Ride with Mike will support NIIM’s groundbreaking ISET-CTC Test, providing many more Australians with access to this test.

Background: More About Michael Navybox and ‘Ride With Mike’

With the help of medical professionals and exercise, Michael beat a surprise kidney cancer diagnosis in 2011, overcame the effects of a terrible motor accident in 2013, and saw through a number of terrible personal tragedies in 2015.

Mike maintained a courageous and optimistic attitude throughout this clearly difficult ordeal. Following surgery, Mike sought treatment in Australia and overseas. Part of his treatment and prevention plan saw him travel to Paris to access the ISET Circulating Tumour Cell blood test to identify malignant tumour cells throughout the body.

Upon resumption of Driver training 2013, Mike was involved in a very serious road accident. He sustained bleeding on the brain and serious neck injuries. Mike underwent major surgery that saw three vertebrae being fused together. The personal struggle involved with the loss of his father in 2013 and unexpectedly sudden death of his sister added to the strain

Mike was clinically diagnosed with Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and treatment continues. Much of his work supports others dealing with cancer and depression about the importance of seeking professional help, as well as the importance of practical, positive outlooks on life and wellbeing.

Mike’s personal challenges over a prolonged period of time strengthened his resolved to improve the lives of those less fortunate. This commitment saw the birth of the Ride with Mike tour, which will see Mike attempt to complete the three European Grand Tours in 2019 alongside some of the world’s greatest cyclists.

These tours include the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France and La Vuelta in Spain, equating to approximately 10,400 kilometres of riding with a 63 Day period.

Donations to Ride With Mike supports NIIM’s ISET-CTC programme and will help provide many more Australian’s with access to this innovative test.
