Many GP’s are facing strong demand and lobbying from patients, carers and patient advocacy groups to consider prescribing medicinal cannabis products for their patients.
This activity will
- Review GPs knowledge about medicinal cannabis: background and history of medicinal use
- Assess clinical uses, evidence and efficacy for prescribing medicinal cannabis to patients
- Evaluate practical considerations with administration and correct dosing of medicinal cannabis
- Consider potential risks, side effects, adverse reactions and drug interactions which may impact patient safety
A case study will be presented, and participants will review a treatment plan, including delivery methods and the goals for medicinal cannabis use with their patients, if appropriate, and when clinically indicated.

A well-known respected holistic GP with over 30 years of clinical experience. At the Dunstan Dental & Medical Clinic, Dr Vicki integrates natural therapies with mainstream healthcare. Co-author of A guide to evidence-based integrative and complementary medicine, and a regular writer for Medical Observer on Integrative Perspectives widely circulated to GPs in Australia. Dr Vicki holds two Adjunct A/Professorial positions – University of Western Sydney and La Trobe University, and formerly with Monash University Department of Preventative Medicine and Public Health. Dr Vicki was awarded Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for four categories: ‘significant service to Integrative Medicine, to Health Practitioner Standards & Regulations, to Medical Education, and to the Environment.’ She was again honoured to receive an Australia Day ‘Environment Award’ organised by her local Bayside Council.
