Hyperthermia at NIIM
Hyperthermia therapy, also called thermal medicine or thermotherapy, is a type of therapy in which body tissue is exposed to high temperature, which may stimulate the body’s immune system and ability to self-heal. It is an adjunct medical treatment used in conjunction with conventional treatments and is available only by referral and under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
How does it work?
The Celsius42 TCS Hyperthermia System is a local-regional heating of body in the area of solid tumours. Hyperthermia is used as an adjunctive treatment to other cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or integrative therapies. Usual treatment protocols run alongside other treatments twice weekly for 8 weeks.
The Celsius42 TCS Hyperthermia System is based on capacitive heating of solid tumours up to 42˚C using electromagnetic frequencies of 13.56MHz with a power capacity of 600W. Hyperthermia treatment for cancer has a long history of more than 50 years worldwide, and the Celsius42 Hyperthermia device has been made in Germany since 2005.
Considerations
Please note that hyperthermia treatment for cancer is not held out as a cure.
Your healthcare provider will discuss all potential side effects prior to beginning the therapy.
How do I become a Hyperthermia patient?
A doctor’s referral is required, and includes the diagnosis, location of the residual tumours, hyperthermia treatment plan (e.g. 16 total, 8 x 2 weekly), and adjunctive therapies.
A clinical review is recommended after an 8-week treatment cycle (16 sessions).
How do I prepare for a hyperthermia session?
Wear comfy loose clothing without any metal zippers/ buttons, preferably cotton material.
