Dr Peter Holsman

Integrative Medical Practitioner

MBBS, FRACGP, Dip Naturopathy

Dr Peter Holsman is an Integrative Medical Doctor, GP, EMDR therapist and Naturopath who focuses on treating adults with chronic health concerns including fatigue related illnesses such as thyroid and adrenal hormone problems, IBS and other digestive issues, anxiety, stress and depression.

He graduated as a medical practitioner in 1980 and gained a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 1986. Working in the public hospital system for three years before running a busy General Practice in Preston from 1984-1993, Dr Holsman felt after 10 years that something was missing.

It was then he met some naturopaths who challenged his way of thinking with words like bloating, brain fog, adrenal fatigue, thyroid problems and toxicity. Suddenly he found himself looking deeper into the underlying causes of health problems. While studying Naturopathy, qualifying in 1995, he worked in various clinics, exploring how to integrate conventional medicine with naturopathic therapies.

The following years saw him follow and further his passion for integrative medicine. Dr Holsman worked at Your Health Camberwell from 2003 to 2007 before setting up the Wellbeing Institute of Australia clinic in Ashburton in 2008.

The Wellbeing Institute in Ashburton relocated to the NIIM Clinic in October 2020 and has been a great opportunity to reconnect with other integrative medicine doctors in a positive, idealistic and supportive environment that is consistent with Dr Holsman’s values and beliefs.

There are lots of ways where Dr Holsman has shared his beliefs about the value of integrating conventional medicine with naturopathic philosophies and treatments.

They include:

  • His book “How to live to 100 and love It!” which was self-published in 2008
  • Therapeutic CDs titled “How to refresh your mind” and “You Can Sleep”
  • Blogs on his website.
  • Teaching final year Naturopathic students at the Australian College of Naturopathic Medicine
  • Keynote speaker at Rotary, Accounting and Financial Planning Meetings.

What he offers:

Over 30 years of experience in treating people with chronic health concerns including fatigue related illnesses such as thyroid and adrenal hormone problems, IBS and other digestive issues, anxiety, stress and depression.

Long appointment times allow Dr Holsman to focus on your individual needs. This includes finding  out when you last felt well and what may have been behind the changes in your health. Exploring why you may have got “stuck”, whether it be emotional, physical or a combination of both is important to help you get your health back on track.

Above all, Dr Holsman is passionate about addressing the underlying causes of your health problems, in addition to your symptoms, to give you the best possible outcome.
